Alex Honnold Successfully Scales Taipei 101, Free Solo With No Safety Gears

Sunday, January 25, 2026

Alex Honnold scaled Taipei 101 on January 25, completing a high-profile ascent of Taipei 101. The climb was covered by Netflix Skyscraper. The climb took place in the morning and drew attention across the city as Honnold moved steadily up the structure.

Honnold rose to global prominence in 2017 after completing the first (and last for now) free solo ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. That ascent established him as one of the most accomplished climbers in the world.

Beyond climbing, he leads the Honnold Foundation, a nonprofit focused on expanding access to solar energy in underserved communities.
